A lot of people wonder why I only use organic home and body products. The truth is, chemicals scare me. I wish I held the same standard for the food that I put into my mouth, but I have not reached that level yet. If someone puts a large piece of fudge in my face, I usually cannot resist. I suppose Rome wasn’t built in a day, so I will continue to refrain from chemicals in my household and body products and take it one day at a time on the food.

As far as the chemicals, it is important to be cognizant of what toxins and hazardous agents are used in the products that go into your family’s bodies. The federal government has no regulations on the ingredients that the beauty industry can use. So, when a beauty company uses coal tar in their shampoo, but no one informs me that coal tar is a carcinogen that can create neurological damage, I have the right to be scared.

One of the hardest parts of using organic body products is not going to the beauty department at a local store and shopping while picking up other items. I used to love visiting the Lancôme and Clinique counters to see what came in the latest gift box if I made a $50 purchase. Target is another hard one… strolling down the beauty aisle to see what new face wash is available. In time, I have become used to ordering products online and passing by the pretty gifts with purchases at the beauty counters.

Enter Sally B’s Skin Yummies. Of course, the first thing I did when I came across their products was to look at the ingredient list on the labels. It was so nice to feel that I was getting amazing products from a brand that proudly states that they use no parabens, GMO, or phthalates.

Sally B’s is Environmental Working Group (EWG) Certified. This means that the EWG has researched how chemicals in beauty products affect users’ immune systems, toxicity levels, and indicates the cancer-causing potential. Sally B’s has a list of common ingredients on their website so that you never have to wonder what is used in their products.

EWG Certified

Yes, Sally B’s can be ordered online, but they have a physical store in Atlanta as well. Sally B’s products are amazing because they don’t just advertise as organic; they show the research behind their claims.

It is crucial that as Lucy begins using beauty products, I am not setting her up for endocrine, hormonal, or other health hazards because I didn’t read the label. Science has come a long way in the last few years, and knowledge is power. So, if I have the knowledge to research the beauty products that Lucy uses, it is my responsibility to do so.

I have used Sally B’s, and I want to mention a few of the products that I love.

Tamanu Luxury Facial Cleanser

When Sally B’s named this product luxury, they were not joking. I am so used to using castile soap on my face because most face washes have so many toxins. However, when I first used the Tamanu Facial Cleanser, (Check it out on Amazon), I was blown away. It is a milky color and smells wonderfully organic. The cleanser leaves my face feeling so smooth.

Foaming Hand Soap

Ok, there are some folks in this world who love suds! I mean, in the past, suds equaled clean because suds give an easy lather. However, we have learned that suds do not equate to clean and that chemicals must be added to products for them to foam at all. The handwash (Check it out on Amazon) gives just enough suds to lather, but it is not made of the traditional sodium laurel/laureth sulfate that is in most foaming products.

Daytime Antioxidant Serum

I had given up on using serums and other beauty products until Sally B’s came along. Their Daytime Antioxidant Serum (Check it out on Amazon) is spectacular. I combine a little lotion with the serum as I rub the mixture on my face after showering. The serum works against free radicals and prevents lines, wrinkles, and skin damage.

Peptide Booster Serum

I have been using the Peptide Booster (Check it out on Amazon) at night. Peptide is a combination of proteins and active molecules. This combination forms a bond that scientifically creates anti-aging benefits. When collagen in your skin breaks down, you begin to show signs of aging. Peptides encourage collagen growth. When you have a serum made of peptides, it signals to your skin to produce more collagen, thus creating the anti-aging benefits. I want a swimming pool full of this serum!!!

B Glossy Lip Gloss

Sally B’s Lip Gloss may have been my favorite product to try because I had run out of my regular lip gloss and this arrived just in time.

I love knowing that the lip gloss is chemical-free and still has such a great tint. As I am writing this article, Lucy came and showed me her lips because she wanted to try the lip gloss. I am so happy because I have complete confidence that what she is putting on her body is safe.

Organic Lip Yummie

If you love smooth lip balm, then you will enjoy the Organic Lip Yummie (Check it out on Amazon). Mine is scented with a hint of orange vanilla. My test with lip balms is when I am spraying on my make up in the morning. Before I spray makeup on my face, I first coat my lips with balm so that I do not end up with beige lips. I know if the lip balm keeps my lips moist and any excess make up wipes off easily, then it is a good lip balm for me.

Sally B's chapstick

Organic Lip Yummie works like a dream! It keeps my lips moist, and it stays on my lips for a long time. Speaking of dream…

Carrot Facial Dream Cream

I make my own facial lotion, so when I had the opportunity to try out another facial lotion that I knew I could trust, I couldn’t wait. The Carrot Facial Dream Cream (Check it out on Amazon) is terrific, and it does smell like carrots! The lotion gives a smooth but not greasy feeling when you apply it right after you wash your face. I usually wash my face twice a day, so it is nice to have a cream that is gentle yet effective.
